Jamila & The Other Heroes
An open-air, danceable nederpop night.
Tempelhofer Damm 85, 12101 Berlin, Germany
Jamila & The Other Heroes is a wild band 'from manywhere' that will make you fly with their psychedelic desert funk. Singer Jamila Al-Yousef, born in Berlin on the day the Wall came down, composes songs that appeal to a transcultural audience, identifying with diaspora stories and a musical fight against racism. As people with post-migrant family histories in Syria, Palestine, Italy, and Colombia, the band creates a sense of home and wanderlust in their music. Jamila's emancipatory message in Arabic and English is supported by powerful live musicians. The band creates an incomparable sound of psychedelic guitar riffs vibrating on an earthy foundation of warm bass lines and Arabic percussion, combined with groovy Afrobeat, hip hop, and rock-influenced drum beats. The dance floor they create is a breeding ground for togetherness and an answer to the mechanisms of exclusion.
