A homegrown hardgroove artist.
Hitam is an Amsterdam-based artist, label owner, and resident of Eerste Communie, known for crafting immersive sonic worlds where deep techno, ambient, and avant-garde IDM converge. His work transcends genre, functioning as aural architecture that sculpts frequencies and textures into spaces of ritual and revelation. Field recordings, modular synthesis, and fragmented tribal samples are treated as raw minerals, forged into rhythmic landscapes that breathe and shift like living ecosystems. His sound evokes swamps, mountains, forgotten shrines, and dreamlike wetlands spaces where boundaries between the human and elemental dissolve. These are shamanic environments: haunted yet vital, inviting the listener to traverse them as one would an ancient rite. As founder of Rhiza Semar, Hitam has developed an imprint that acts as vessel and mirror, extending into visual art and design that reflect the same mythic consciousness present in his compositions. Each release continues an underworld narrative where sound becomes matter and time folds back into itself. His DJ sets at Tresor, Bassiani, De School, K41, and live performances at Awakenings, Nxt Museum, and STOOR transform the dancefloor into a liminal zone of trance and transformation. Beneath their precision lies a current of raw instinct. A rhythmic invocation bridging the cerebral and the feral. For Hitam, music is not entertainment but excavation: a means of unearthing the primal and transcendent buried within the listener.
Hitam plays hardgroove.
