Apartment House: Not in Between
An underground minimalism night.
The pioneering group Apartment House presents a programme of work by significant Afro-diasporic composers, spanning over half a century of avant-garde and experimental music. This UK first features Ben Patterson’s modernist compositions, Dorothy Rudd Moore’s eloquent scores, and the visceral art sounds of Anthony Braxton. The performance also highlights the intense work of Alvin Singleton and contemporary pieces by younger composers Allan Gilbert Balon and Jessie Cox. This event is part of Always, Already There, the first UK edition of George Lewis’s Afrodiasporic Incubator project. Curated by vocalist and composer Elaine Mitchener, the series explores the radical and varied experimental work of Afrodiasporic composers, past and present.
