Santorini's music is shaped by its caldera. The early evening belongs to the cliff-edge bars of Fira and Oia, where classical music and cocktails accompany the island's famous sunset - a tradition the long-running Franco's Bar in Fira helped establish. The Santorini Jazz Festival has brought international jazz to Kamari beach each July since 1997, and the Santorini International Music Festival, founded in 1979 by the pianist Athena Capodistria, programmes classical recitals at the Petros Nomikos Conference Centre in Fira each September.
After sunset, the island's only true dance clubs cluster in the narrow alleys of Fira, led by KOO Club and Enigma, the oldest club on the island. Down in Vlychada, the Santorini Arts Factory - a former tomato-paste factory converted in 2014 - hosts concerts, theatre and exhibitions. The scene is firmly seasonal, running through the summer.
