Naoussa's Venetian harbour bars are the chic, low-key answer to Mykonos; the Paros Park Festival runs open-air concerts all summer. Paros mixes beach clubs with village panigiria. Every show on Mood.
Paros
Paros music scene
Paros offers a calmer, more stylish night out than Mykonos. The hub is Naoussa, a fishing village whose small Venetian harbour - guarded by the half-submerged ruin of a Venetian fortress - is ringed by bars that stay lively but stop short of megaclubs; Linardo, playing deep house and disco, is the landmark. Parikia, the island's port capital, keeps a more relaxed, mixed and year-round bar scene, and Punda Coast on the south coast is the island's daytime beach-club party.
The cultural calendar is busy in summer. The Paros Park Festival has run open-air concerts, theatre and dance on the Ai-Yannis Detis peninsula near Naoussa every year since 2009, and the Archilochos cultural society in Parikia, founded in 1976, runs film and music festivals. Village feasts punctuate August - Naoussa re-enacts a 1537 pirate raid by Barbarossa's fleet on 23 August with a staged harbour battle, fireworks and dancing, and the 15 August feast at the Ekatontapyliani church in Parikia draws pilgrims and music alike. Every show is on Mood.
