The first Prague Pride, in 2011, drew 8,000 people and provoked protests from conservative groups. Within a decade the parade had grown fivefold.

That first edition took the form of a classic parade. Before the pandemic, the festival week together with its accompanying events counted 90,000 attendances in total, with 40,000 people at the Saturday parade. The route starts at Wenceslas Square and crosses the historic centre; for years it finished on the Letná plain, and after thirteen years the finish moved to Štvanice Island, where Pride Park is set up.
Prague Pride is not only a parade: the week takes in screenings, talks, exhibitions and concerts in venues across the city, many of them free to enter. That shape - festival first, parade as the peak - is also why the week's attendance figure runs at more than double the parade's own. Outside the festival, Prague's queer scene runs year-round, with bars and clubs mainly in Vinohrady and around the centre. The list here shows the city's LGBTQ+ friendly events as a whole and not only those falling inside the festival week. Out of season it thins to the venues' standing nights, which carry on through the winter - Prague does not empty the way an island does, and its venues keep their own steady programme.
