In 2015 the organisers of Milano Pride held up a sign bearing a single word: "Sì". By the following year the civil unions law had been signed - before the 2016 Pride took place.
Nothing on right now
Pride events cluster in the summer, but every city sets its own dates - Milan often runs its march and its parties a month apart from the next city on this list.
Milan's parade is held at the end of June each year. Italy legislated for same-sex civil unions in 2016, after years of protest and under fierce opposition from the Catholic Church and from conservative politicians. The demand was put publicly from the 2015 march with that one-word sign, and the law was signed before the next parade could be held. It is part of why Milano Pride keeps an explicitly political tone: in Italy the demands are not closed.
Milan does not celebrate alone. Onda Pride - the "wave" - is the network of Italian Prides spread across dozens of cities in the same summer, from the big metropolitan centres to smaller provincial towns where holding one is a statement in itself. Milan's parade is among the largest in that wave. Outside the season, the city's queer scene runs year-round, with bars and clubs mainly around Porta Venezia, which is its recognised neighbourhood. The list here shows LGBTQ+ friendly events as a whole and not only the days of the parade. Out of season it thins to the venues' standing nights, which run right through the winter - Milan is a working city before anything else, and its nightlife follows its own week.
