Festival Season in Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki's festival season takes advantage of its spectacular seafront location along the Thermaic Gulf. Reworks Festival, founded in 2005 and held each September across multiple iconic Thessaloniki venues, has hosted over 1,300 artists across its history and is described as Greece's leading international electronic music and contemporary culture festival. Its 2025 and 2026 editions (September 24-28, 2025; September 16-20, 2026) span five days across the city. Street Mode Festival, founded in 2009 and Greece's largest urban culture event (hip hop, rock, street arts), drew 40,000 visitors across five stages at its 2017 edition.

The Ladadika district, a former Ottoman-era marketplace for olive oil traders whose 19th-century warehouses were heritage-listed by the Greek Ministry of Culture in 1985, houses the core of Thessaloniki's nightlife across 20+ venues in converted historic buildings. Summer concerts extend to outdoor spaces along Aristotelous Square and the Thermaic Gulf waterfront, with Moni Lazariston (a former Lazarist mission complex with a 3,000-capacity outdoor courtyard, festival established 2002) hosting summer programme events. The Thessaloniki Concert Hall (M1 opened 2000, 1,400 seats; M2 opened 2010, designed by Arata Isozaki) anchors the city's large-format classical and popular programming.

The Thessaloniki Hip Hop Festival has run since 2003. Voreia Asteria (North Stars), the pioneering Thessaloniki hip hop group formed in 1999, released albums *Xalara* (2003) and *Xalarotera* (2004) considered classics of Greek hip hop. The Dimitria Festival, first re-established in its modern form in 1966 (with roots tracing to Byzantine-era celebrations of Saint Dimitrios), runs September through December each year - three months of music, theatre, and art organised by the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
