The town's events are tied to the feast of its patron, Agios Athanasios. Around it, the plain villages keep their own days through the summer, with a live band, tables in the square and dancing until late - the pattern that holds across Western Greece. The area is among the most fertile in the country: vines, watermelon, citrus and olive oil, and the feast-day table comes out of them, with roast meat, ladera and local wine. To the west, Kyllini and the coast bring the celebration to the sea, while to the north lies Ancient Elis, the city that organised the Olympic Games of antiquity.
