Lille's LGBT centre is called "J'en Suis, J'y Reste" - a twist on the old French line "j'y suis, j'y reste", here I am and here I stay, with "j'en suis" carrying its colloquial sense of "I'm one of them". It has been open since 1998.
Nothing on right now
Pride events cluster in the summer, but every city sets its own dates - Lille often runs its march and its parties a month apart from the next city on this list.
Since 1998 the J'en Suis, J'y Reste association has run the LGBTQIF centre of Lille and the Hauts-de-France region, on the rue de Condé - a reference point for associative and activist life across the north. The city's march has had turns of its own: in 2003 Lille's Pride drew more than 8,000 people, and in 2005 a collective organised an emergency march, with around 2,000 taking part, backed by the centre. That collective became an association in October 2005, in 2007 helped create the Égide, a house for LGBT associations on the rue Nationale, and in 2016 the Lesbian & Gay Pride Lille took its present name, Fiertés Lille Pride.
Lille sits minutes from the Belgian border and about half an hour by train from Brussels, and its scene moves between a French and a Belgian crowd. The city runs a Pride Month of its own, the Mois des fiertés, with events across town. Queer nightlife runs year-round, with venues in the centre and in Vieux-Lille. The list here shows LGBTQ+ friendly events as a whole and not only the days of the march.
