Lyon has one of France's oldest associations still running: the Forum Gay et Lesbien de Lyon was founded in 1979, long before the city had a march of its own.
Nothing on right now
Pride events cluster in the summer, but every city sets its own dates - Lyon often runs its march and its parties a month apart from the next city on this list.
Public visibility in Lyon has roots in the late 1970s - there are photographs of demonstrations from 1979, the year the Forum was founded - and the city's march became established in the mid-1990s, when the Marche des Fiertés spread from Paris to the major regional cities. Those marches won what they were asking for: the civil partnership, the PACS, passed in 1999, and marriage for all in 2013. Today it is held each summer and crosses the centre with organisation blocs, banners and sound systems, followed by events and an open-air close.
The city's geography shapes its scene. The Presqu'île, the narrow strip between the Rhône and the Saône, holds most of the bars and clubs, while the Croix-Rousse, the hill of the old silk weavers, and Vieux-Lyon across the Saône keep characters of their own. Lyon is a student city and a food city, and its nightlife follows the university calendar more than the tourist one. The list here shows LGBTQ+ friendly events as a whole and not only the days of the march; out of season it thins to the venues' standing nights.
In 1979. It is one of the oldest associations still running in France, and it preceded the city's march by more than a decade.
Mainly on the Presqu'île between the Rhône and the Saône, with venues in the Croix-Rousse and Vieux-Lyon as well.
