Patras Pride began in 2016 and is the only Pride in the Peloponnese: a mid-sized city that mounts its own event rather than sending people to Athens.
Nothing on right now
Pride events cluster in the summer, but every city sets its own dates - Patras often runs its march and its parties a month apart from the next city on this list.
Greece holds four Prides a year - Athens since 2005, Heraklion since 2015, Patras since 2016 and Thessaloniki since 2017. Patras is the third chronologically and the only one south of Athens. The event combines a march and a programme of events in the centre, with speeches, talks and music, and its scale is that of a city where the demonstration passes through streets everyone recognises - which makes it more visible, not less.
Patras already has a strong culture of the street and of costume: its carnival is the largest in the country, running from January to Clean Monday, with floats, crowds and groups that prepare for months. That familiarity with public celebration gives Pride a grounding that not every city of its size has. The student population - the university is among the largest in Greece - also sustains a nightlife that runs from October through May. The list here shows the city's LGBTQ+ friendly events as a whole and not only the days of the event itself; out of season it thins, and what remains are the standing nights at the city's venues, which carry on through the winter.
In 2016. It is the third chronologically of Greece's four Prides - after Athens (2005) and Heraklion (2015), before Thessaloniki (2017) - and the only one in the Peloponnese.
Four: Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras and Heraklion. Each keeps its own dates, so the season is not the same across the country.
